Background In 1994, a group of ASCE Life Members in San Diego County informally convened under the invitation and guidance of M.E. "Mike" Nosanov, Life member, to provide and share Life Members' professional experience to our community leaders. Following initial meetings that established the Life Member Committee, goals and objectives were outlined to serve the committee purpose and letters from the ASCE Committee were distributed together with personal contact to all community governments and leaders to inform them of the Life Member Committee intention and availability. Response to the letter was formally acknowledged, however, no formal requests for our assistance and consultation materialized.
Current Activity For the last two years under the leadership of Mike Sholders, the Life Member Committee has been concentrating primarily on improving public image of Civil Engineers by developing videos depicting infrastructure and projects on civil engineering activities in SD County that can be presented at service clubs, schools, colleges, and universities and other public presentations. Other Life Member activities have included participation on the proposed SD Main Library siting and the SD School District Oversight Committee. The Life Member first video on Infrastructure by Bob Fogg is completed and shown to many schools, service clubs and other ASCE Sections in USA. Other videos will be produced and jointly sponsored by this ASCE Section and CELSOC. A special Committee has been established for this purpose. Mark Creveling is the appointed chairman. The first video will feature "Mass Transit" followed by "Transportation" and then "Water Supply". Surveying, mechanical and electrical engineering projects will be featured based on donations from large firms and contractors.
