    Structures Representative/Resident Engineer

Position Summary:

This individual is responsible for the technical review and approval of false work plans and calculations created by the construction contractor, coordinating consultants and directing the work the field inspection staff in accordance with Caltrans Standards and Construction Manuals. Plans and facilitates project meetings, makes recommendations for change order negotiation and preparation, assists the Construction Manager in the preparation of monthly progress reports to client, review of construction schedule, maintaining record drawings. Works in a collaborative manner with the Construction Manager, contractor and design engineer in facilitating the submittal, design review and construction of major structural elements of the project.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Civil Engineering or similar field
  • Professional Engineer Registration state of California
  • 5-10 years applicable experience in structural design review and/or construction management of roadway/highway improvement projects involving significant structures including bridges constructed in accordance with Caltrans standards

Position Summary:
Provides engineering support to project teams providing Design services. May be assigned street, pipeline, slide repair, or site design or agency staff augmentation roles. Reports to a Senior Project Manager and receives assignments from one or more Project Managers and others. Position requires flexibility and willingness to learn new skills, grounded on basic engineering principals.

Position Responsibilities: Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Carries out tasks assigned by the Project Directors, Managers, or Engineers

  • Manages personal time allotted to various tasks in order to meet obligations of one or more projects, including budget and schedule.
  • Uses engineering judgment to perform duties and knows when to ask questions, seek assistance or perform independent research.
  • Is sensitive to, but not ultimately responsibility for, project budget, schedule, and quality, and reports concerns promptly to the Project Manager.
  • Effectively interacts with peers, clients, and sub-consultants through written and oral communication.
  • Performs engineering calculations, clearly documenting methodology used and checks his/her work.
  • Researches and writes reports relating to project assignments.
  • Makes oral presentations at client or Harris meetings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering degree (or acceptable equivalency in experience)
  • California Professional Civil Engineers license
  • 5 to 7 years minimum engineering work experience at Assistant Project Engineer level or higher
  • Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record

 Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills including AutoCAD, Microstation, MSWord, Excel, MS Project and other software used by the Design group.
  • Written and oral communication skills sufficient to prepare project documentation and correspondence, interact effectively with other team members, occasionally interface with clients, and deliver client, public, or internal team presentations on occasion.
  • Technical skills appropriate for the type of engineering tasks assigned.

 Desirable Qualifications:

  • Computer skills including AutoCAD, Microstation, MSWord, Excel, MS Project and other software used by the Design group.
  • Performs engineering calculations, clearly documenting methodology used and checking work.
  • Researches and writes specifications and reports relating to project assignments.

The salary range for the Senior Civil Engineer is $7,099-$8,631 monthly.

Associate Civil Engineer candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and three years of responsible professional engineering experience in municipal public works. Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California is required. The salary range for the Associate Civil Engineer is $6,097-$7,420 monthly.
