INTRODUCTION
Brown and Caldwell is looking for a motivated, energetic infrastructure professional to lead its Infrastructure Group in San Diego, California. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to join an employee-owned environmental engineering company with a guiding philosophy built around the concept of sustainability in its approach to developing and implementing environmental solutions.

REPORTING AND ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
Direct reporting to the San Diego Office Manager.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Infrastructure Group Leader must have extensive experience in growing business lines, delivering results and growing a workforce in San Diego and Southern California. The Group Leader position is intended to compliment the current staff by providing a focus on water/wastewater systems design projects; including but not limited to, conveyance, planning and design experience.  

The Infrastructure Group Leader will be responsible for activities related to the growth and successful delivery of projects, including the following key areas:

Growth Strategies and Marketing. Work with regional Infrastructure Leadership Team to develop vision and strategic business plan (one-year and three-year) for BC’s Infrastructure Practice in San Diego and Southern California, including characterization of the market and strategies/tactics to identify and pursue upcoming opportunities in each of BC’s service areas. Take lead responsibility for meeting annual booked new business goal for Infrastructure in the San Diego office. Identify and lead strategic project pursuits in Southern California. Promote regional BC exposure through support of selected professional organizations and/or committees.

Operations. Take lead responsibility and work with operations leaders and project managers to meet goals for Infrastructure Practice staff utilization, revenue, and project profitability. Track group workload and help to ensure that appropriate staff are assigned to projects. Provide input to annual regional business planning process. 

Project Delivery. Work with operations leaders and project managers to ensure appropriate staff are assigned to projects, BC’s project delivery system (PDS) is applied effectively, and quality reviews are performed. Engage directly in projects, serving as project manager, task manager and/or senior technical resource.  

Staff Development. As leader of the San Diego Infrastructure Group mentor and supervise senior practice staff in the office, oversee staff hiring plans, support performance evaluations and career planning. Lead recruiting efforts to expand Infrastructure core team in San Diego and Southern California.

Office Leadership. Coordinate with other San Diego office leaders as needed to support broader office goals, including collaboration on key client efforts across all of BC’s practice areas.   

Position Requirements
Experienced in taking lead responsibility for meeting annual booked new business goal. Able to identify and lead strategic pursuits in Southern California.

Experienced in taking lead responsibility and having worked with operations leaders and project managers to meet goals for Infrastructure Practice utilization, revenue and project profitability.

Able to serve as project manager, task manager and/or senior technical resource.

Developed staff, oversaw staff hiring plans and lead recruiting efforts to expand staff where needed.

Demonstrated success with investment and growth strategies.

History of recruiting, developing, motivating, retaining, and promoting staff.

FOR THE POSITION OF:
PRINCIPAL CIVIL ENGINEER
REGULAR, FULL-TIME

THE POSITION
Under general direction, plans, organizes, oversees, coordinates, and reviews the work of a major engineering unit within the Development Services Department, including long- and short-term project planning, design, construction, land development, and/or other programs; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; provides highly complex and responsible support to the Development Services Director, City Engineer, and others in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required.

Receives general direction from the City Engineer or assigned supervisor. Exercises general direction and supervision over professional, technical, and administrative support staff through subordinate levels of supervision.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATES REQUIRED

Experience:
Six years of responsible experience in civil engineering and/or public works with three years of supervisory and/or civil engineering project management experience.

Education/Training:
A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed California units = 120 semester/180 quarter) from an accredited educational institution with major coursework in civil engineering, or a related field.

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid California class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record. Valid registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.
