CITY OF SANTA MONICA
The City of Santa Monica is recruiting nationally for a highly experienced professional to manage a full service public works department with significant capital projects and operational activities that support a dynamic and active urban community of 91,000 residents with millions of annual visitors. A recent reorganization has expanded departmental staff to more than 400 in seven divisions with an operating budget of $10.2M for FY 2010-11 and an aggressive CIP Budget of $152M-$600M expanded through 2013.

Top candidates will have a broad background in all aspects of public works operations with a strong track record of success in managing and leading a multi-faceted department with a leading edge approach to environmental issues. The Director will address demanding, often competing priorities through public and internal meetings with transparency in project reporting. Additionally, this senior level executive will be action oriented, with well grounded ethical decision-making, superior interpersonal and communication skills, and outstanding public speaking abilities.

This internationally known community, with its involved citizenry, has high expectations for customer service and a strong commitment to achieving desired outcomes within budget and on-time results.

Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is desired; professional engineering license is a plus. Broad management skills and sophisticated approach to organizational issues are essential given the City’s size, scope and complexity.
